August is Black Business Month and I wanted to jog down memory lane with a business that I absolutely loved that I closed a few years ago. No, I have no intentions of starting it up again. There was a specific season for Fusion Tour and that season has ended. I was cleaning up my digital files and found some photos from that time in my professional life. Which also became a huge part of my personal life.
As an introvert starting out in business, traditional networking scenes were too overwhelming for me. The ticketed brunch events weren’t a thing at that time, so I needed to find a way to meet other entrepreneurs in a controlled environment yet let it be a welcoming, inviting, fun atmosphere. A tall order. But one I just had to figure out. And I did, quite successfully I might add.
I had events all over the country (15 cities), met amazing women, got to travel, learned a lot about an events business and generated a lot of buzz for my blog, Women Are Gamechangers. It was a whirlwind of a time. Every moment will always be treasured by me.
Brought it back at the beginning of the pandemic to give some help, encouragement and strategy for businesses to get through such an unprecedented time.
Running a business is not for the faint at heart either. There will be imitators, mockers, sabotage, unexpected expenses, bad actors then we flip to the other side and get a new source of income, new acquired skills, adventure, memories and so much more. An emotional rollercoaster.
Even though I have chosen to return to corporate America for the time being I know all that I learned running an events business will carry over to help me be creative, innovative and a problem-solver on my job. Because if there’s one thing an entrepreneur has to do is solve problems. Sometimes problems that aren’t even yours or created by you.
This formerly shy kid created an award-winning, investor funded national tour that took me to places I didn’t dream of going, into rooms I didn’t know existed and into an evolution that helped me return to who I am at my core. I love Fusion Tour for all that it has done for me. If anything, I pray everyone reading this will one day find something that will be a wonderful memory for you even if it only lasted for a little while.
