My Jackie Robinson Year:  42

42 days ago I entered my Jackie Robinson year. This year I actually looked forward to my new year and what’s to come. Also, I was able to celebrate my birthday with family. That hasn’t happened in a few years because we live so far away from one another. I woke up excited with anticipation of what my new year would bring. But that couldn’t officially get kicked off without my new birthday tradition and that’s attending WNBA All-star weekend.

Over the past 42 days, I have gone through a whirlwind of random thoughts. As I’ve been searching for what to do in my next era, I had to learn to truly exhale, not be anxious and release whatever control I thought I had over situations. With that inner work happening, I was able to realize that I needed to stop living in my head and bring my ideas to my reality. So the words in my journal are being put into action as I write this. I am taking a chance on me again. I am wading into risky waters just like Jackie did. Going into the unknown alone (well a small local support system and a larger one across the country) with hopes that what I am working towards will pay off.

Jackie Robinson is the epitome of believing that you belong in the space your talents brought you to. I take that energy with me as I re-enter the event space. This time with experience and wisdom. I don’t want to lose the momentum I felt when I woke up on my birthday. I want to build upon it and hopefully leave a lasting impression like Jackie has.
