Why I Reflect and Meditate?

I will reflect on all you have done and meditate on your actions.

Psalm 77:12 (Christian Standard Bible)

This scripture is one that I often look at and meditate on when things are going just a little off the wall in my life. Sometimes it’s best if we just sit down and reflect on our life. Not to see what didn’t go our way. Or what didn’t happen. Or even why we didn’t get things we wanted. But to reflect on how far we’ve come. Things we’ve overcame.

Lately and by lately, I mean the past several years I’ve looked back over my life. A life that has been anything but a straight line. Or boring. A life that has or is currently moving from complicated to simple. That’s my goal at least.

Reflecting on your life also doesn’t have to be some huge event in your life. Or your day. Now the part of this scripture we do need to make a huge event in our life is to meditate on what God has done for us. This is where we replay what happened. And when we do that, it should lead us to give God a mighty praise. A praise that reaches the highest heavens. A praise that shakes our personal world.

Learning to make praising God, even when things aren’t going the way I would like or going well at all, has given me such a different perspective. A perspective that has helped me to open my heart as well as my mind to seeing or allowing things to happen more in the spiritual than the natural. Y’all it’s still a personal battle but I’m moving towards allowing that to be a pillar of my foundation.

I reflect and mediate on scriptures that speak to my heart because they help me see my own errors. Most importantly, they help me to open my heart to treating not just myself but others with the love that Jesus taught us to do. Loving myself and others allows me to feel God’s love even more. And this is where and why I can praise God in spite of circumstances that try to bring me down.
