Back again with another Black Business month memory. Where do I even start? There was a time I worked nonstop to build my blog into a business like for years. It was going in that direction. Things were moving along. The best revenue generator I had was Fusion Tour. I thought a change would be wise because I kept attending business conferences, joining group coaching groups and taking masterclasses telling me that products and services would help me make more money. I wasn’t entirely sold on the idea, but I kept searching for the right person or conference to help me develop a roadmap to make that happen. And after years of learning, trying, experimenting and not moving as much as I would have liked, I gave it up.
Honestly, I should have just stayed with events and expanded there first. But you live and you learn. I’m laughing because I lost count how many different services and products I created and tried to sell.
What got me was I could easily sell out my events but moving product and services kept me stumped? Like how, sway?
I still have the two journals I created. I wanted to keep them for memory sake. To remind myself that I did create and publish two journals. From idea to tangible products. This was not something I thought I would do. Never crossed my mind to create a product that has my name on it. When I teach certain lessons to my students, I use those journals to show them that whatever they thought they could do, they can do so much more. I think it helps them see even their teacher went for it. It didn’t turn out like I wanted but I did something many people only talk about. And this wasn’t anything I had ever said I wanted to do.
Then we get to the services that I was told by business coaches I should do. I never felt comfortable with any of the services or consulting I did. It felt forced. That’s not a feeling one should have when navigating the landscape of creating a business that was built on pushing women to be and do more for themselves in every area but primarily in their business. Probably explains why I didn’t get more clients.
Lessons learned.
New skills acquired.
Experience enhanced.
Knowledge expanded.
Well, that’s it for this rendition of back down memory lane. If I can leave you with one thing, it’s to create a service or product that not only you want to do but that you actually know there’s a genuine need for. Meaning people are scrambling to pay for this need to be met. Go with your gut not what others say they think is best for you.
