3 Reasons I’m Attending The Potter’s House School of Ministry

It’s been a decade since I’ve been in a class setting ie virtual. I graduated with my Masters in May 2011. And yes, the entire program was online. So doing virtual school is sort of my preferred thing.

I’ve been pushed by several people to go back to school to get a doctorate.

What was I going to get another degree in?

But why?

Why were so many people urging me to?

Were they going to pay for it?

Were they going to do the homework, take the tests, write the papers?

Secretly I had begun to look at programs. Programs related to seminary, divinity and theology though. I just didn’t want to pay for another degree with loans.

So when I truly began to consider going back to school I prayed that God would allow me to as long as I could afford to pay each semester out of pocket, didn’t have to retake classes I took in my Masters, and could do it from the comfort of my home. The program I wanted to attend only met 1 of those 3. So I was hesitant to even apply.

One day I received an email that met all 3 of my requirements and to study something that I am interested in. That email came because I felt a strong urge to sow into to a church I’m not a member of earlier this year. I’ve never given this ministry money before but the Lord led me to sow and now I know why.

Drumroll please……………………….

I am now a new student at The Potter’s House School of Ministry. I will be in a two year certification program to get a Certificate of Ministerial Studies. I’m now a Minister in Training student [insert high-pitched squeal]. I won’t be ordained but I just want to gain deeper insight, knowledge and wisdom as it relates to Scripture.

The Potter’s House School of Ministry met all 3 reasons I would go back to school:

  • something affordable for me,
  • taking classes I haven’t taken before specifically in chapters of the Bible as well as crafting a sermon
  • AND done all online. Baby I don’t have to step foot inside a classroom. Hallelujah!! I like to learn where I like to learn.

For someone who wasn’t interested in going back to school to being going to school for ministry is a WOW moment for me. To go from where I was at the lowest point of my life in 2018 to studying to become a Minister is only God.

ONLY. GOD.

My prayer was answered because I sowed even though I was hesitant. I sowed. And that led me to receiving an email that I would never have had access to otherwise that met everything I prayed for regarding going back to school.

I trusted God even with shaky legs. My prayer was answered exactly like I needed but nothing like I thought.

Trusting God strengthens when you act on that trust. Just fyi.
